    ABOUT THE PAEDIATRIC PROJECT

The Paediatric Palliative Care Project represents a unique opportunity to build the capacity of the Australian health care system to respond to the specialist needs of children with life-limiting conditions.

The project brings together two peak bodies with the capability and content knowledge to deliver outcomes that will be crucial to enhancing palliative care for infants, children and young people.

The project is in collaboration with Palliative Care Australia (PCA) and Paediatric Palliative Care Australia and New Zealand (PaPCANZ), and funded by the Australian Government.

    The project objectives

The Paediatric Palliative Care National Action Plan project represents a unique opportunity to support health professionals to respond to the specialist needs of children with life limiting conditions. The project will also address the needs of parents and carers seeking assistance to care for a child with high medical needs and life limiting conditions.

The objectives of the project are:

    • To increase knowledge of where the gaps are in adequate paediatric palliative care services and where services are needed
    • To improve support and information resources for parents and children with a life limiting condition, workforce in hospitals, high care and palliative care providers, and
    • To enhance practical assistance to children with high medical needs and life limiting conditions by coordinating a national approach.
